The Lectors [or Readers] proclaim God’s Word to the congregation in such a way as to impact meaning and understanding. Lectors are part of the opening and closing procession of the Mass, and are scheduled on a rotating basis. Training and study aids are provided.

Lectors are proclaimers of the Word of God.  As the Book of Hebrews explains, the Word of God is "living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to soul and spirit - dividing joints and marrow." Hebrews 4:12.

The Word of God is nourishment for our spiritual journey. Jesus said, "one does not live on bread alone, but by every word that come from the mouth of God."  Matthew 4:4.
