Holy Name Society is devoted to ensuring the respect, the honor and holiness demanded by the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ and God. Male adults in good standing with the church are invited. The men attend Mass and receive Holy Communion as a group on the second Sunday of each month followed by their monthly meeting. Monthly dues support parish projects such as Communion Breakfast, Men’s Night of Recollection, and provide special gifts to support parish needs. They also sponsor the annual Bundle Drive for St. Vincent de Paul.
The men of the Holy Name Society strive to follow the Scriptural command given by Saint Paul to the Philippians that "at the Name of Jesus, every knee should bend, on earth and in heaven!" Respect for the name of Jesus is a sign of respect to Jesus Himself.
The Holy Name Society is the popular name for the Confraternity of the Most Holy Names of God and Jesus. It is fundamentally and essentially a spiritual organization for Catholics - lay and religious, whose purpose is to give honor to the Most Sacred Names of God and Jesus.
Purpose of the Holy Name
The confraternity promotes reverence for the Sacred Names of God and Jesus Christ, obedience and loyalty to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, and the personal sanctification and holiness of its members. Members are called to contribute to the evangelization mission of the Church and to make perpetual acts of reverence and love for our Lord and Savior. The apostolate of the society is to assist in parish ministries byperforming the Corporal Works of Mercy as well as the Spiritual Works of Mercy.
Corporal Works of Mercy – to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, shelter to the homeless, tend the sick, visit those in prison, and bury the dead.
Spiritual Works of Mercy – to convert sinners, instruct the ignorant, counsel the wayward, comfort the sorrowing, bear adversity patiently, forgive offences, and pray for the living and the dead.
